About Us Our Organisation
The Opportunity Network is made up of 47 organisations, 39 of which are microfinance institutions (programme partners) operating in Africa, Eastern Europe, Central and East Asia and Latin America. These programme partners provide loans and other support directly to families in need. Funds to support the work of programme partners are raised through support partners operating in various countries including Australia, Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom and the USA. These funds are provided to programme partners as either equity, loans or grants. While programme and support partners have close relationships, each operates as an independent legal entity. No programme or support partner acts as agent for any other programme or support partner, nor has authority to bind any other programme or support partner.
Opportunity Inc – an Illinois not-for-profit corporation (‘Opportunity Global’) – establishes the overall strategy of The Opportunity Network, supports implementation of the strategy and oversees the programmes worldwide. The global leadership team reports to the Opportunity Global Board of Directors.
The Opportunity Global leadership team works very closely with the leadership teams of the support partners in setting and executing strategy. Close collaboration between support partners and the programme partners occurs through a range of Boards and committees and four regional councils. The regional councils are focused on assisting programme partners measure social performance outcomes and train teams to help maximise transformational impact for families living in poverty.
We respond to Jesus Christ’s call to love and serve the poor. We seek to emulate the Good Samaritan, whose compassion crossed ethnic groups and religions.
