About Afua

Afua is a distinguished journalist, broadcaster, royal commentator, and keynote speaker, known for her insightful analysis and authoritative voice on matters of global interest. Beyond this, she has shown a long-standing commitment to uplifting others and advocating for dignity, inclusion and opportunity, making her a natural fit for Opportunity.

Her work and personal values strongly align with our mission, and we are inspired by her willingness to stand alongside us in raising awareness and driving change.

Why This Partnership Matters

For over 50 years, Opportunity International has worked alongside people to create solutions that open doors to lasting opportunity. We believe that meaningful change happens when people come together with a shared purpose. By joining hands with Afua in this way, we hope to deepen awareness of our work, reach new audiences, and inspire more people to take action.

As an Ambassador, Afua will be involved in storytelling, events and experiences, fundraising and advocacy, helping shine a light on the issues at the heart of our work. In November 2025, she travelled to Ghana to visit Opportunity clients in Accra, where she met graduates of our skills training programme.

Meeting the programme alumni showed Afua the power of financial inclusion and the impact to a woman's life that it can bring. Whilst in Ghana, we met Comfort. She told Afua about the hardship she had faced working as a kayayei (head porter), but now thanks to Opportunity's programme in Ghana, she has opened her own hair salon. She initially trained in soap making and then saw an opportunity to forge a successful career in hairdressing. She is happy and the business is thriving, and she makes enough money every day to pay into savings.

Travelling to Ghana and meeting Amama, a client of the organisation, brought the impact of this work to life in a very personal way.
